More than 10 days (about 1 and a half weeks) had passed. The great final that we all were hoping to win for last 50 days, after such an incredible performance across a 1.5 month long stretch of unbeatable streak of 10 matches. Now as dust have settled, and all pain and emotions also been flowing steady, lets just dive in a little deeper, to explore those dark underwater patches of the most anticipated final that happened, We lost ! Losing is definitely one of the accepted outcome of any sports. Let me throw some numbers here 1362 runs was only scored by Rohit and Virat only, 89 wickets were taken only by our topline bowlers from 96 wickets fallen of the oppositions in those 10 match streak. Only 2 events where we failed to get opposition all out. Every match of India ran full house, with each match beating the streaming numbers of the previous one. Well we can be looking around infinites statistics in such a way if we keep digging. Let’s talk about other numbers before we come to point in question, Coming to consumer spending and other market economics data, expected 16K-22K crores of hard money floated in Indian economy. Zomato-swiggy and all the other food delivery services topped their earnings, Hotels prices were surging as nearly as 250% more than their usual prices, people instead opted for homes on rent, hospital beds & what not to find ways to keep team spirits high in the stadiums. Disney hotstar makes around 3.5k crores from ad’s avenues, 31L per lakh ad-slots for matches featuring India. Flight’s surged at 150-170%, trains & other transporting companies also capitalizing on same. For those who were not in stadiums, used TV and sports bars which also have seen growth both in numbers of Sales and foot-fall respectively. November marked as the month where India consumed beers in numbers like never before. BCCI & ICC also make their numbers rise by capatilizing on the greatest event they ever managed to host. Enough with numbers now, but this all data reflects one thing for sure, the cricket of today is definitely a professional matter. It was always like that, but now these numbers are definitely hits the motivation of crores of people watching this game. As per as Indians are concerned, they consume this game like nobody else across the globe. For them, its lot more than these numbers metioned on the top. It’s a feeling, of association, of celebration, of keeping dreams alive and to keep fighting till last breadth. This is among the great lessons this game and its heroes like Gavaskar, Sachin and Dhoni has taught us for the decades. For them, the loss in final is heartbreaking, some of us like me are still weeping in corners of their daily chores. What I want to talk about in detail is that are we really caring about our game? Are we really have that fever which we boast about, all we are still keeping our daily lives at bay(definitily in positive sense) for celebrating this game together. Because starting the T20 innings just after 4 day of the final is not to be appreciated in any sense. We are not machines, robots, which can remove that loss easily and then load another series just to move on. We should give both ourselvevs and our players time to reflect, on the mistakes made, the opportunity lost, the emotions hurt inspite of being playing like tiger across the tournament. Consuming cricket as FMCG good like a soap or biscuits are not we Indians. Its great that we moved past on burning posters and disturbing the families of the players at their homes, but we actually missed the sweet spot where we all should have stop. The point of origin, a balance point where the love-emotions along with the rationality of the game rests together. I have seen this in cricket with Australians, West Indians and some other countries from different sports. We all have moved miles from the world test championship where this same Travis Head was pain in our ass for whole match from this very same opponent. So let’s not make this game of Cricket as cheap consumable like the breaking news, insta reels, shorts or whats app propaganda messages. Love this game with the spirit of a sportsman, which is both human and natural. And we all know, loves take its own time to cook well and a lot more time to forget/move on if we loses, which we all did.
